How Much Can the GMC Yukon Tow?

The 2023 GMC Yukon is powered by a 5.3L V8 EcoTec3 engine under the hood, delivering 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque to the Halstead roads. Thanks to this powertrain, the standard GMC Yukon can tow up to 8,400 pounds, while the XL model can haul up to 8,300 pounds. If you’d prefer to carry your cargo inside the cabin rather than behind it, you can do that too! The GMC Yukon features a maximum payload capacity of 1,910 pounds, with plenty of room for passengers and cargo alike.

To maximize your towing experience, the GMC Yukon comes standard-equipped with a trailering hitch, which features a seven-wire harness with independent fused trailering circuits. And you can upgrade to the Heavy-Duty Trailering Package for even more features, including:

  • Integrated Trailer Brake Controller
  • 3.42 Axle Ratio
  • Two-Speed Active Transfer Case on 4WD Models Only
  • Premium Smooth Ride Suspension with Rear Air Leveler

GMC Yukon Towing Safety Technology

In addition to strong towing numbers and performance specs, the GMC Yukon comes with a wide variety of features designed to make hauling cargo as safe and easy as possible. Here are some highlights:

  • Trailer Brake Control: Controls located behind the steering wheel allow you to configure your trailer’s braking system.
  • Hill Start Assist: With Hill Start Assist, you’ll have time to switch from the brake to the accelerator. This feature holds the brakes on your behalf, so if you’re towing on a slope, you won’t slide back.
  • Trailer Sway Control: Trailer Sway Control helps keep everyone in the cabin safe by preventing trailer sway. The StabiliTrak sensors can detect when your trailer is swaying, so you can course-correct.
